SKU Generator
Create consistent SKU identifiers for new product lines, categories, and warehouse items. Define prefix, category, numeric padding, and quantity, then copy or export results.

How to use this tool
- Set prefix, category, separator, start number, and digit count.
- Choose how many SKU values to generate (up to 1,000).
- Copy to clipboard or download TXT/CSV.
Practical example
Generate ELEC-TV-0001 through ELEC-TV-0100 for a new electronics product category.

Designing SKU structures that scale
A readable SKU encodes category, variant, and sequence without embedding price or supplier codes that change. Merchandising and warehouse teams agree on prefix rules before the first 100 SKUs ship — retrofitting naming after pick paths go live is expensive.
Field choices and padding
Prefix identifies brand or warehouse zone; category narrows product family; numeric padding preserves sort order in spreadsheets and WMS imports. Use consistent separators (hyphen vs underscore) across all channels so barcode and ERP imports parse identically.
Worked scenario
A furniture maker launches three upholstery lines. They generate FURN-SOF-0001–0050, FURN-CHR-0001–0030, and FURN-TBL-0001–0020, export CSV, and load into the barcode batch tool for label printing the same afternoon.
Operational FAQ
How do I avoid duplicate SKUs across brands?
Include a brand or legal-entity prefix even if catalogs feel small today. Two-letter entity codes prevent collisions when assortments merge.
Should SKU match barcode value exactly?
Not always — GS1 numbers may differ from internal SKU. Document the mapping in your item master so scanners and reports stay aligned.
