What is Scrap Rate?

Scrap rate is scrapped quantity divided by total production quantity in the same period—material and labour you paid for that never became good product. It is not rework hours (that is a separate cost) and it is not yield at an intermediate stage unless you define scrap at that gate. At PakProm d.o.o., 420 scrapped units against 21,000 units produced in April is 2% scrap rate. Why Scrap Rate matters

  • Compare to standard scrap in product cost—variance hits margin before ops sees the trend.

Benchmark context

Flexible packaging converters often run 1–3% scrap on established SKUs; new product ramp gets a 90-day higher band with weekly review. Benchmark against your own best sustained quarter on the same mix, not a generic zero. Euro scrap cost matters for margin bridge—2% on high-value laminate exceeds 3% on liner board in P&L impact.
